About Me

Myself (Karen) and my better half, Chris, are the proud owners of a beautiful dog from Tish's Blacksheep Homestead.  Mindy is my profile pic, and has been a member of the family for 2 and a half years now.

I work as a paramedic, Chris works on the railroad, and when not at work we are either fishing/camping or doing construction in the summer or gathering our winter firewood.

I do a lot of baking/cooking also, am am getting more and more into 'getting back to basics' with more old fashioned recipes and learning how to do more for ourselves and get away from depending solely on the grocery store. There is something very satisfying about baking a good loaf of bread or making a pot of real soup that isn't full of salt and preservatives!  We are planning to get chickens in the spring finally with a mix of birds for meat and eggs and am looking forward to having Mindy help keep an eye on them.

I'm sure you'll here more from me later... take care for now!

Update... well, we have gotten our chickens, and more chickens... and then the chickens decided to have little ones.... so chicken math is in full swing at our place and Mindy couldn't be happier! She faithfully watches out for her birds and keeps track of them in the yard. She will put her nose in between any to stop conflicts when she thinks someone is getting hurt, but stays out of minor squabbles. She is definitely a 'hall monitor! Cats aren't allowed around the little ones at all till they are a few weeks old, and after that she still watches like a hawk for any sign of trouble. Luckily our cats seem to not really care about the birds and generally treat them as just another part of the yard.
Looking forward to adding another ES from Tish to the house this spring. Our fingers are crossed that she has a little fellow who will fit in and help Mindy keep track of her birds!

Hi Karen, great to "see" you here! Wow, little Mindy is all grown up. Love that grin, she looks so much like her mama, Mati :-)
